Scripture for Week of April 27 – May 3

1 Peter 3:15-16 (NIV)

15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

I was listening to the radio Monday morning after nearly 17 million households in our country had watched as an American icon / athlete express his intent to try and change God’s identity for him (ABC on Sunday night). It was rather dissapointing that the Christian radio hosts did not express biblical Truth in the course of the discussion about the former Olympic hero. What was just as alarming was the overwhelming sense of my need to clarify the biblical Truth about this growing movement across our country…and to do it in the 5 minutes before dropping her off to school.

Admittedly, I did not do so well at the time. However, it did challenge me to put a greater effort into thinking about my response to challenges from the culture to our faith and biblical doctrine. It caused me not to passively listen to the news, but to rather begin to frame a theologically correct (yet compassionate) biblical response in my mind so that I would be prepared for any question that needs a response.

Join us this Saturday at the apologetics conference and help yourself to be ready to answer those who may ask you to give a reason for the hope that you have. Go to and register or come to the Bridge on Saturday morning and register on a walk in basis. You will be glad you did!
